The difficulty with reclaimed wood is to provide a continuous assortment with fixed lengths, widths and thicknesses of the products. We counter this by sorting and cutting by hand and using a tolerance grid. This is how an assortment for the retail trade can be presented. Our lengths are fixed, but widths and thicknesses are divided into ranges in which the individual products are located: e.g. width 220 to 270 mm and thicknesses 19 to 25 mm. Suitable for wall cladding and interior finishing. The most exquisite variant is the original old wood, which is collected and processed from demolished buildings in Europe.
Original Old Wood
The PX VINTAGE range includes boards, beams and panels in different manufacturing techniques. Original reclaimed wood comes from old buildings and is prepared for sale. This variant is not available in unlimited quantities and is therefore very precious.
Throughout Europe, there is a trend in interior design to use old building materials in modern architecture to create contrast and character. The trend of upcycling includes many old items and materials that are given a second life in our living spaces.
Why wood ages
Wood ages when it is exposed to the weather. What is perceived by the observer as simple greying is a complex ageing process. Wood surfaces exposed to the outdoors experience a degradation of lignin substances through daily exposure to UV light and oxygen. Lignin is the natural bonding agent between the cellulose fibres in wood. Wind and rain wash out the dissolved lignin components on the wood surface, leaving behind the white cellulose fibres.
The settlement of fungi and bacteria produces grey to black discolouration, which is also called patina. Depending on the duration of ageing, wood substance is removed in this way and forms a relief between early and late wood on the plank surface.

Preparation
Original old wood is dried to approx. 10 % wood moisture. This means that the wood can now be used for inhabited and heated indoor areas, even if it was used outdoors in its previous life. The drying process causes any insects in the wood to die off. Original old wood is freed from all steel fragments such as nails by means of metal detectors. The structuring process removes dirt and loose cellulose fibres.
