The structuring or brushing of wood surfaces is used to bring out the existing structure of the annual rings. A wire brush is used to remove the soft early wood while the harder late wood remains, thus achieving a relief-like effect. This processing method has a particularly strong effect on coniferous woods, because the wood structure can be worked out especially well there. In the case of original old wood, brushing also cleans the boards of dirt and loose cellulose fibres.
Artificially aged solid wood
Antique spruce is produced from spruce wood lumber and is therefore available in practically unlimited quantities. To give the fresh spruce an antique character, it is steamed. This process gives it a brownish colour, similar to UV light exposure. To emphasise the old wood character, the surfaces are additionally chopped and textured. The result is not as unique as original reclaimed wood, but it is significantly cheaper.
