Thermally-treated pine has been a standard in the assortment for years. The fine-grained, Nordic pine comes from Finland, where the tempering method was also developed. As a substitute for tropical wood, thermo-ash can be used, which is also tempered in Europe. Thermo wood is “baked” at > 160° C and then gets an even tan and becomes more brittle. The colour is not UV-resistant and bleaches out. The thermal treatment provides better outdoor properties, such as increased resistance to fungal and insect attack.
